Open Water Certification – Let’s take your adventure to new Depths!
Open Water certification includes online eLearning, Part I pool skills development and
Part II open water skills refinement. Everyone completes online eLearning at his own pace.
Online eLearning is completed before the scheduled pool weekend.
Pool Weekend (PartI): We meet at the shop (730 W. Douglas, Wichita, KS) at 8:00 a.m. for an overview of dive planning, introduction to dive computer usage and gear assembly. When we finish, we head to the pool at the Derby Recreation Center (801 E Market St., Derby, KS). On Saturday from noon to 4:15 pm and Sunday during the the same time period, we will be at the pool. We will start with a a swimming skills assessment (swimming 200 yards and floating for 10 minutes) and then complete five swimming pool dives. During the dives we leave the basic skills needed to be a safe and successful open water diver.
Lake weekend (Part II): We complete Part II at the scuba park near the dam at Beaver Lake,
Arkansas. Individuals are responsible for travel and meal expenses. These dives allow
each diver to review and master the skills learned in the pool. I transport all gear to the
lake. The park charges a $5 per day
parking fee.
We have three dives to complete on Saturday starting at 8 a.m. We usually finish by 3 p.m. I
bring sandwiches for lunch and snacks throughout the day. Depending on where people
are staying the night, we will meet for dinner. Sunday morning, we meet at 8 a.m. to finish
our last dive. After the last dive we pack the gear and complete log books.
Equipment: Scuba ICT will provide for use during the pool and open water, as part of the
certification price, BCD, Regulator, Tanks, Weights, dive computer and wetsuit. Each
student provides his own mask, snorkel, fins and boots (“Student Gear”).
We offer students that purchase Student Gear a 10% discount on gear purchased within 90 days after finishing open water certification. If you prefer to rent the Student Gear for the two weekends, We can provide mask, snorkel, fins and boots for $30 per person per weekend ($60 for Part I and Part II)
Investment: The investment per person in online eLearning, Part I and Part II is $525.
Congratulations on earning your Open Water Certification!
